As well as producing the promotional film for the production we also created the sound design for the play. From collaging the original music composed by Ben Glasstone to create haunting dreamscapes to creating the sound of trees creaking in the wind but – crucially – with no sound of the wind in the leaves (extrapolating from a sample of a creaking door), it also presented the exciting opportunity for me (along with Olly, the director and leading man Nick) to visit Oscar™ winner Jim Broadbent, no less, in his North London home to record a monologue for the play! Needless to say Mr Broadbent was as charming and welcoming to his home as you could possibly hope, offering us hot drinks (gratefully declined, natch) and a large chunk of his time with not even the slightest hint of any imposition.

Last year we made a website for Tora Young, a fantastic London based Make-up artist.

She wanted a site that is simple, clean and elegant to give prominence to her portfolio with as little distraction as possible.

We’re really pleased with the overall results.

Click here to check it out.

As with all the sites we have built over the last couple of years we used WordPress – it’s so satisfying to hand over a site to a client giving them full control over the content – empowering them to be their own web administrator and taking control of their marketing at first hand.

We’ve got a couple of other new sites that will be going live over the next couple of months, including a ‘flagship’ site for Trestle Arts Base that is going to be massive, so watch this space!

New Poster finished for Trestle Unmasked's production The Man with the Luggage

During the last while we have been designing and producing the poster and short animated promo for Trestle Unmasked’s upcoming production The Man with the Luggage.

Matt sorted the poster out and we all got together on the animated promo working on sound design, animation etc. in collaboration with The Man with the Luggage Director Oliver Jones of Blindeye Theatre.

We really like the initial bits we’ve created and are pleased to say that we will be working to produce the sound design for parts of the show itself.

anyhoo here’s the poster followed by a few process bits and then the animated short

Enjoy…

The poster itself.

Some circles.

Older version. Much darker and not in tune with the show really…

Our good friend Jack who stood in as ‘the man’. He wasn’t to happy about how many times we made him spin (it was quite early).

Another older test

Another-nother test…

Hand-made (digitally) ticket.

And finally – the new animated short promo.

Well, well reader, it has been so long… so very long and so much has happened.

Oh (possibly imaginary) reader, let me tell you…

As we said to all one of you in our last post, we have started work on our Arts Council/GFTA funded R&D project LOOM/THADOWS LOOM. We had a cracking time in that first session, where we basically played with fog, projectors, sound and lights all day in the wonderful Trestle theatre space.

We were like ugly sugar filled children playing with prohibited toys – it was great, and we learnt a lot (especially that none of us a particularly great with heights; which is fun when you have to climb the scope to change bits and pieces on the lighting rig).

As far as that session went we were only really looking at some technical issues and didn’t really delve into the concept of the piece.

Enter our wonderful lone performer Georgina Roberts and mentor Emily Gray.

With them we had a fantastic few days exploring narrative, characterisation and the tentative script/ story board we had produced. We even warmed up with them using Polish vocal resonance techniques, which, to a bunch tech-heads and firmly ‘desk’ based artists was.. frankly.. hilarious – but well worth it.

Anyway, I won’t say to much more – you will have to wait and see when we next post… which will literally be in about 30 minutes as I’m catching up. But that doesn’t bother you does it – certainly-possible reader.

Here’s a couple of very poor images from the workshops

Al & Jim warm up with Emily – note the wonderful balance of the VIDEOfeet team.

The wonderful Georgie warming – looking slightly more composed than Al and Jim, I have to say…

JIm acting as audience – what is he thinking?

Al recording Georgie… hopefully for some reason.

Speak soon reader… much sooner

A new post for all of our reader!

Sorry it’s been so long, reader. Nonetheless, I must press on and get down to business.

We’ve finally gotten ourselves in the theatre to start work in earnest on our GFtA-funded project LOOM/THADOWS LOOM. Had a great day last Friday, learnt a lot about what we can do (and probably more importantly, what we CAN’T do…) and generally had a really productive time. And, for that matter, a lot of fun. One of the things that really struck me was how, when we were working in the space, there was no thought given at all to this being work or tiring in any way shape or form, but when we got home…whew…suddenly we all just collapsed as one…

So, without further ado and in no particular order, here are a whole bunch of nice pictures from the day:

It’s Matt and Jim!

Mmm, smoke machine. Mmm projector. One of the things we found is that the projector we bought is fantastic.

How did a stripy shirted shaven ape get in the theatre? And where is it going with that cardboard?

And what the hell is wrong with his feet! Put that down!

Just to point out to our (possibly imaginary) reader – we made all the projection material. It’s all us and none of it is stuff from 2001 that we just using for test purposes.

And the image being projected here is something that Jim got on his visit to the Hubble space telescope. He used the ‘Space telescope to Canon EF mount’ adaptor that he got off Amazon.

Just smoke and lights…

You can’t tell, but in this picture I’m using a wicked bit of freeware called ‘ppooll’ (www.ppooll.klingt.org) to remix Madonna into something completely unrecognisable. I’ll post that up here as soon as I can whop it onto Soundcloud.
